Career Liaisons

CASNR Career Liaison Program Statement of Purpose

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is dedicated to total student development, encouraging not only academic success but also leadership development, personal growth, and professional development. In support of this goal, the College coordinates Student Success Leaders to assist in implementing a holistic appoarch to student success.  The Career Liaisons are Student Success Leaders who serve to enhance the professional development of all CASNR students by increasing student knowledge about career-related topics and participation in career development activities.

Career Liaison Selection

The selection of a small group of Career Liaisons is coordinated through an application and interview process. Interested students from all majors within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are encouraged to complete and submit an application during the spring semester. Transfer students who have been admitted to the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and who will enroll during the summer or fall semester are also eligible to apply for positions as Career Liaisons. From the application, candidates are selected and evaluated in an interview process that typically includes a mixing and mingling reception and presentation.

Time Commitment

The Career Liaisons participate in a multitude of activities including career fairs, employer visits, and conferences. Academic year activities requiring Career Liaison participation include the Career Liaison spring retreat, fall training week, two college-sponsored career fairs, weekly volunteer office hours, and standard weekly staff meetings. Not all Career Liaisons are required to be at other activities beyond those listed. However, collectively, the group is expected to make sure all activities where Career Liaison assistance is requested are covered. Some additional activities include hosting employer information sessions, attending selected College events, presenting and/or assisting with workshops, and participating in other professional development opportunities.

The CASNR Career Liaison program is a program with specific duties and responsibilities to be accomplished by the members. It is a small select group and all members are expected to actively participate and be dedicated to the team. Time commitment varies from week to week and semester to semester.  Attendance for weekly meetings and volunteer hours is expected, and Career Liaisons are asked to work class schedules and other activities around these time commitments, as well as the other obligatory activities previously mentioned.  You must have a desire to give wholeheartedly of your time and efforts. If you have too many commitments to make the Career Liaison program a priority, this may not be the program for you.
