Agricultural Ambassadors
Future Agricultural Leaders Conference Application
Statement of Purpose
The Agricultural Ambassadors are a select group of agricultural students dedicated to enhancing the image of and interest of the agriculture industry and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and Oklahoma State University. Ag Ambassadors serve the agricultural and natural resources industries in Oklahoma in a variety of capacities. This includes hosting functions to educate students about the career and educational opportunities in the industry, hosting prospective students on the OSU campus and speaking on behalf of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources to various groups.
Selection Process
Typically, 12-15 students are selected to participate in the Ambassador Program. Interested students complete an application. From that application, selected students will be evaluated during an interview. That interview includes a short impromptu presentation. Information about the interview and other evaluation activities will be provided to candidates who are selected to participate. Applications for the Ambassador team typically come out in the spring semester usually in February. Interested in applying? Click here!
Time Commitment
Although it is an honor to be chosen to be an Ag Ambassador, the Ambassador group is not an honorary organization. It is a working organization with specific duties and responsibilities accomplished by the members. It is a small select group and all members are expected to participate and be dedicated to the team. Time commitment varies from week to week and semester to semester. Standard activities include a weekly meeting from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. every Thursday. Attendance is expected and Ambassadors are asked to work class schedules and other activities around these meeting times. Members are required to check the Ambassador "Request Notebook" in regards to current requests at least once per week and are expected to check their email on a consistent basis (every 1 - 2 days) as many requests are sent via the Ag Ambassador list serve. Bottom line is that the Ambassador program is fun, you will learn a lot and you will contribute much. However, you must have a desire to give wholeheartedly of your time and efforts. If you have too many commitments to make this a priority, this may not be the program for you.
The Ambassadors have participated in over 80 different activities so far this year including a special conference, Future Ag Leaders Conference, hosted for 50 prospective high school juniors and seniors each November. With the exception of the Conference, Ambassador Retreat & Training, standard meetings and scheduled group activities/programs (phone-athon), not all Ambassadors are required to be at all activities. However, collectively, the group is expected to make sure all activities are covered. Some activities include hosting individuals/groups who are visiting campus, attending Ag related trade shows, setting up and working the College booth at selected events, hosting companies who are on campus, meeting and greeting special guests and alumni of the College, and visiting and speaking to selected high schools in the state.
Each Ambassador is expected to attend a two-day retreat/training session. Those selected to be Ambassadors must agree to attend this event. Exceptions are only made in extreme circumstances. Visit www.AgAmbassadors.com to learn more about this outstanding group of students!!!
