Animal Science - Graduate
The Department of Animal Science offers graduate work leading to the Master of Science degree in animal science or food science. Research work at the M.S. level is available in the areas of animal breeding (genetics), animal nutrition, animal physiology or food science (meat or milk products). A Master of Agriculture degree in the emphasis area of animal science is also available. The department offers programs leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree in animal breeding and reproduction, animal nutrition, and food science.
Prerequisites
Admission to the graduate program requires an undergraduate major in animal science, dairy science or poultry science, or in closely related biological sciences or biochemistry. In addition, students with a major in dairy manufacturing, microbiology, human nutrition, food science, or food technology can qualify for the program in food science. A student enrolling in a degree program must have been accepted by an adviser prior to official admission. In all cases, the student's graduate adviser or committee may recognize specific undergraduate deficiencies and require measures to attain proficiency.
