How to Enroll/Advise

THE STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS for ADVISING AND ENROLLMENT - A STUDENT GUIDE

STEP 1: PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE

Materials Needed:

  • Degree/option sheet for your major
  • A list of all of the available courses (access the SIS homepage and click on "Available Course Sections" icon)
  • A copy of your department's undergraduate handbook or a flow sheet of required courses (some departments have these, some may not have these). You can create your own flow sheet by studying the course descriptions in the catalog.

Using the SIS website to plan your schedule:

  1. Click the "AVAILABLE COURSE SECTIONS" icon.
  2. Highlight a term in the TERM menu. Click "SELECT".
  3. Highlight DEPARTMENT NAME from the drop-down list. Click "SELECT".
  4. Highlight COURSE NAME & NUMBER from the list. Click "SELECT".
  5. Record the Call Number, meeting times and days on your Trial Study Form.
  6. Repeat steps 3-6 as necessary.

STEP 2: FIND OUT WHEN YOU CAN ENROLL

  • Your enrollment period is based on the number of hours you have earned (students with the greatest number of earned hours, enroll first). If you are a freshman with no earned hours, your enrollment period will be based on your social security number.
  • Your enrollment period is listed in the "Enrollment Guide" handout OR can be accessed by going to the SIS system and clicking on the "ABOUT" star on the left side of the page and then clicking on the word "ENROLLMENT DATES."

STEP 3: SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR ADVISOR

  • Don't procrastinate. Make your advising appointment at least one - two weeks in advance of your enrollment period (one week prior to the first day on which you are eligible to enroll). Each advisor schedules appointments differently; find out, in advance, how your advisor schedules advising appointments.
  • Because numerous students may be trying to meet with the advisor, it is unrealistic to think you will be able to just "drop-in" for the advising session without a scheduled appointment.

STEP 4: GO SEE YOUR ADVISOR

  • Bring the schedule of classes that you have planned.
  • Present the proposed schedule and ask the advisor for any suggestions. If you are uncertain about some of your proposed classes, ASK QUESTIONS!
  • Ask any additional questions you may have (related to careers, classes, on-campus resources)
  • Make certain the advisor has cleared you to enroll (released your advising hold on the computer). You can now either self-enroll via the SIS website OR take your signed "Trial Study" form to Sectioning (during your assigned enrollment time).

STEP 5: ENROLL (TWO ENROLLMENT OPTIONS)

OPTION A: Self Enrollment using the SIS Website

  • Go to the SIS Home Page (http://prodosu.okstate.edu/) or click on the SIS link at the upper left of the OSU home Page.
  • Click on "LOG IN" star on the left side of the page
  • Type your nine-digit student ID number
  • Then enter your six-digit SIS PIN.
  • Click "LOG IN"
  • Choose "REGISTRATION & SCHEDULE"
  • Click "Drop/Add Classes"
Registration
  • Highlight a term from the drop down menu. Click "Select"
  • Enter call numbers of the courses you selected
  • Click "Submit"

OPTION B: Enroll at Sectioning
